Winter Skincare Tips and Tricks

Wisconsin winters—we love to hate them! Winters here overstay their welcome with dry, freezing air lasting well into the official start of spring. All we can do is make the best of it: cozy nights in, wine on wine on wine, plush robes, rewatching Bridgerton, and alllll the home-spa and self-care vibes. ‘Cause yeah, skin gets its own kind of S.A.D. this season.

To help your skin not only survive the winter but actually come out better for it, we’ve compiled some quick tips and favorite products to help your skin live its best life all season long! Here are our 6 Tips for Winter Skincare:

Wear your SPF (yep!).

Rule #1: SPF isn’t just for beach days—your skin needs it in ALL seasons. Even on overcast winter days, snow reflects the sun's rays, effectively multiplying harmful UV exposure. UV rays are linked not only to premature signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration), they’re also linked to Skin Cancer. And according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate clouds and still cause damage. So before you go outside, give skin a shield of SPF 30.

Our SPF Pick: Daily Replenish SPF 30 is our daily chemical-free tinted moisturizer. It’s designed to protect skin from harmful rays while antioxidants and peptides also prevent future damage.

Pro treatments can help.

Think about what problems your skin experiences during winter. Dryness? Uneven texture? Dullness? Whatever your concern, there’s a pro treatment that can help. So set up a consultation with your local spa or trusted aesthetician to get their expert recommendations. It may be that you could benefit from a nourishing facial, a peel, or light therapy. So if your skin is in dire need this winter, consider leaving it to a pro.

Our spa-like pick: Our Winter Glow Hydration Kit is like a mini at-home spa treatment. In the kit, there’s Vita-B Enzyme Polish, Vita-C Peptide Spray, and Vita-Soothe Serum. It’s all here for you!

Drink your water.

It will never hurt your skin to stay hydrated from the inside out. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating water-rich foods will help skin feel happy, soft, and supple. You may also want to avoid processed foods rich in sugar. Eating whole foods packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids helps skin look and feel its best.

Our hydrating pick: Ultra Benefits Moisturizer is Katie’s favorite way to support hydrated skin from the outside. This antioxidant-rich moisturizer sinks right into skin as peptides help brighten, even tone, and firm.

Up your evening ritual.

The best time of day to replenish moisture? Overnight! If your skin feels on the dry side during the day, add a gorgeous night cream to your bedtime skincare routine. This way, all those beautiful active ingredients can go to work while you rest. Skin will wake up revitalized and ready to take on the winter day ahead.

Our overnight pick: Multi-Complex Night Creme is a nighttime moisturizer formulated with retinoid, Lipochroman®, CoQ10, and moisture-magnet Glycerin. This is true beauty sleep.

Add a humidifier.

In winter, the air is noticeably dry. And if you haven’t noticed it, your skin definitely has. Using a humidifier in your home can help! Humidifiers restore and balance moisture in the air, helping to hydrate your skin. You can run a humidifier in the rooms you spend the most time in, or even just run one in your bedroom while you sleep. The goal is to have the humidity be between 30–50%.

Our skin-refreshing pick: Slay Spray Vitamin-C Hydrating Mist is part aromatherapy, part moisturizing spray packed with Vitamin C and peptides to help refresh and rehydrate the skin.

Use lukewarm water + pat skin dry.

We love a steamy shower as much as anyone, but super hot water can actually dry out the skin in a big way. Dermatologists suggest taking a 5–10 minute WARM shower or bath (not a super-long HOT shower) if you want to keep skin from drying out in winter. Also, towel off by patting skin dry rather than rubbing. Patting helps the skin retain more moisture. It also helps to apply moisturizer within a few minutes of bathing to lock in hydration.

Our cleansing pick: Our Lavender Cleanser is just the thing for gently cleansing the skin while replenishing moisture. Chamomile and ginger essential oils calm and soothe skin, helping to reduce redness and irritation.
